Dr. Boamah’s research employs a person-oriented approach to studying quality of life outcomes, and designing innovative interventions to enhance health outcomes for older adults and their caregivers.  Her program of research focuses on three interrelated foci: understanding how clinical micro-systems (e.g. clear leadership) can guide and support practice innovation and performance in healthcare; understanding factors that affect daily function and quality of life of older adults with multi-morbidity and individuals with cognitive impairment (i.e., mild cognitive impairment, dementia); and evaluation of how technology can promote cognitive activity, social connectedness, and physical fitness for individuals living in long-term care homes.  The overarching goal of Dr. Boamah’s research program is to improve the health and well-being of older adults and facilitate independent living, as well as, improve performance in health services organizations.

Through the LEAD Outcome Research, her goal is to ensure safe, effective and efficient care for patients, residents, family members, and improve quality  work-life for care providers.  To achieve this goal, she is engaged in multiple funded research projects and works in collaboration with Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) at the University of Alberta and the Environment, Hazards and Heath laboratory at Western University.  Her highly collaborative interdisciplinary lens is demonstrated by the publications stemming from her research with leading scholars in nursing and social science focused on access to health services and environmental issues in sub-Saharan Africa in which she offers leadership from a clinical and equity-based perspective.

Among her accomplishments, Dr. Boamah received the Top Researcher Award at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Windsor, and an Author Recognition for one of the most highly cited paper in 2017 in a leading nursing journal.  Methodologically, Dr. Boamah has a strong focus in quantitative methods.  Student training and mentorship is a cornerstone of her research program, and as such, Dr. Boamah works closely with undergraduate students and supervises graduate students, and is always excited to welcome new students.
